UPDATE: The LAX-HKG prediction I made was wrong.  Sorry!

Lots of juicy tidbits abound from Flyertalk about tomorrow’s American Airlines press event (11am PST) from the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, but there’s one big one I expect to see:

Nonstop Service to Hong Kong from LAX

a plane flying in the sky

American Airlines 777-300ER

American will finally add to its DFW-HKG service with the addition of a daily LAX-HKG (and vice versa) flight.  This is big news for those of us who visit Hong Kong often and prefer to earn our miles with American!  I predict American will fly a 777-300ER on this route and will begin utilizing their aircraft better at HKG by running two jets on the route and leaving each on the ground for around four hours.  This is much more efficient than the current one jet that remains on the ground for nineteen hours between flights!

Other news

It looks like American will announce some new routes from LAX and potentially some news about how they’re acquiring more gates at LAX (some go as far as to speculate that American could move into T5 though I have doubts about that).

What do you think?  Are you excited about the announcement tomorrow?
