Check out the past pictures of the week at the archive!

Ever since I’ve picked up a camera I’ve been pretty lucky at getting some epic pictures of my alma mater (Texas A&M University).  Last year I took some wonderful pictures of the grand re-opening of our football stadium and later even released a too-short hyperlapse and timelapse film of some scenes from gameday.

Last weekend my Aggies played the Arkansas Razorbacks at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas (where the Dallas Cowboys play).  I’m sure AT&T paid a pretty penny for the naming rights but pretty much everyone calls the stadium either Jerryworld (after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones) or the Death Star since, well, it looks kind of like the Death Star from Star Wars.

During halftime the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band performed one of the best drills I had ever seen.  They’re a military marching band, versus the typical show band of most universities.  At the end of the drill they aligned for the legendary Block T formation.  Taking a picture like this was very difficult (due to camera restrictions at AT&T Stadium) but I was lucky enough to capture this panoramic shot.  At full resolution the image is almost six feet across, so I figured it was epic enough to be this week’s Picture of the Week!

For the photographers: This shot was five different pictures with my a7rII and the Sony Zeiss 55mm.  I shot vertically in manual mode across the scene very quickly in order to not space out the band too much.  Settings were ISO 100, 1/100s, f1.8.  I then aligned the images in Photoshop and had to use the Content-Aware Fill on the lower left to fill in some gaps.  After that I ran it through my normal workflow, but it didn’t need much, the lighting at the stadium is pretty solid.  Happy to answer any questions!
