I was in San Fran for a Sony “Be Alpha” photography event last week and had some time to explore that great city before heading over to the Dogpatch area where the event was held.  I was at the Fisherman’s Wharf touristing around and looked across the bay toward Alcatraz Island and was instantly reminded of my favorite movie of all-time.

Yes, a Michael Bay movie is my favorite movie of all-time.  Come at me.

Anyway, one of the locales featured in the movie is San Francisco’s epic Palace of Fine Arts.  Originally constructed in 1915, the PoFA is the only remaining “palace” from the Panama-Pacific Exposition of 1915 (although it was rebuilt in the mid-1900s).  Over the years it has remained one of the most iconic parts of an incredible city.  But also it was in The Rock.  So I decided to walk over.

…from the Fisherman’s Wharf.

Quite a long walk and a few blisters later I arrived, expecting touristy nonsense.  Boy was I mistaken!  The rotunda was epic, sudden, and worth the walk!  I momentarily forgot about The Rock the architecture was so amazing!

The Palace is amidst a small park around a residential area and has a theatre and exhibition hall.  The main feature of the Palace of Fine Arts is the rotunda, as those of you who follow me on Instagram already saw.

I went underneath the rotunda, found the center, pointed my camera straight up, and got a Picture of the Week!  Enjoy!

For the photographers: I shot this with the Sony a7rIII and my 12-24 ultra-wide zoom.  Post processing was pretty basic, just level adjustments and whatnot.  More of a symmetry shot than any sort of post-processing wizardry, but as always please let me know if you have any questions about it in the comments below!
